Three-year project to rehab Winona’s old bridge begins

One down, one to go…

Winona’s new bridge is in place. Now the renovation work begins on the historic span. The first noticeable changes will be completing the intersection at the foot of the new bridge in downtown Winona. The temporary setup, where drivers can only head right toward Huff Street, is just that — temporary. Work on the intersection is expected to be finished at the end of next week, and will include traffic signals and the end of the detour to get on and off the bridge. The schedule depends on weather, but regardless, said Minnesota Department of Transportation graduate engineer Beth Burton, the intersection will be settled soon. What’s here to stay longer-term is the two-way traffic on the new bridge, which will continue until the end of the project in 2019.
