US DOT Awards $1M Grant to Modernize Iowa’s Rural Infrastructure Through Advanced Geospatial Mapping
Ingio Geotechnics is undertaking a large-scale project to map over 11,000 miles of unpaved rural roads in Iowa using its COMP-Score RT roller mapping technology. According to a press release from the company, with $1 billion in support from a USDOT grant, and in partnership with Buena Vista County and the Iowa County Engineers Association Service Bureau (ICEASB), together the organizations will gather extensive geospatial data, crucial for assessing and maintaining the state’s unpaved road infrastructure. By measuring structural support conditions, the project enables county engineers to make data-driven decisions on road maintenance, upgrades and budget allocation, setting a precedent for unpaved road management.
