U.S. Customs and Border Protection begin border infrastructure projects

Several border infrastructure projects are already underway, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. CBP says they’ve already started reaching out to stakeholders and landowners along the border “for rights of entry to begin real estate and environmental, and design planning to install gates along the existing border wall, construct new access roads, and to construct new border wall.” The projects is part of President Trump’s Executive Order 13767. While fiscal year 2017 funded the construction of 35 gates and access roads in the Valley, fiscal year 2018 includes $445 million for the construction of 25 miles of new border wall in Hidalgo County. Nearly $196 million will go towards a new border wall in Starr County.
