U.S. Says Advanced Hackers Have Shown Ability to Hijack Critical Infrastructure
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency stated that hackers’ software could potentially affect a device called programmable logic controllers. This device was made by Schneider Electric and OMRON Corp.
According to insurance journal, programmable logic controllers, or PLCs, are embedded in a huge number of plants and factories and any interference with their operation has the potential to cause harm, from shutdowns to blackouts to chemical leaks, wrecked equipment or even explosions.
Additionally, due to the current state of supply chains, if these threats pan out it could take a long while to get replacement controllers.
