Officials with the Michigan Department of Transportation announced Friday that a months-long project to reconstruct 4.2 miles of U.S. 31 north of Pellston is now mostly complete, about three weeks ahead of schedule. The $5 million project, which was originally scheduled to be completed by Oct. 24, started in April. It included reconstructing 4.2 miles of U.S. 31, replacing large culverts, and realigning a curve south of Ball Road. The highway was under detour to through-traffic until late August, with single-lane traffic maintained under flag control since then.
