U.S. 29 bridge could be open soon

Rehabilitation of a damaged bridge 8 miles north of Anderson could be complete by early next week. “We’re real close to getting everything up,” DOT resident maintenance engineer Fritz Wewers said Wednesday. Crews have completed the task of redesigning the bridge which connects S.C. 20 to U.S. 29, Wewers said of the bridge, which was hit by a truck last month. Workers plan to reinstall guard rails today and begin pouring concrete Friday. “It took us a long time to cut through the concrete and the rebar, where we had to remove part of the deck,” Wewers said. “If we don’t have any weather delays, there’s a good chance we can finish the whole project in the next few days. We’re hoping for early next week.”
