President Donald Trump said on Wednesday (10 January) that he actually cares about the environment and that his only misgivings about the Paris Agreement are that it treated the US unfairly. He admitted that Washington could rejoin the climate accord under fairer terms. At a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Trump claimed that the deal, signed in 2015, “treated the United States very unfairly”, saying negotiators “as usual, made a bad deal”. He said he had no problem with agreeing to a climate deal but the Paris accord was “a bad deal. So we could conceivably go back in.” Trump also claimed that he cares about the environment a lot and that the “EPA and EPA commissioners are very powerful in the sense that they want clean air and clean water”.
