Troy officials celebrate replacement of 110-year-old water line

TROY, N.Y. >> Mayor Patrick Madden had a telling welcome for state and local officials Tuesday morning as he hosted a ceremony to mark the completion of a $3.2 million project to replace the major city water transmission line that ruptured in the first weeks of his new administration back in January 2016.

“It’s nice to be talking about water and not have wet feet,” the mayor quipped as he stood on the spot where a 110-year-old, 36-inch steel pipe burst Jan. 17, 2016, spilling more than 8 million gallons of water into the streets — and basements — of Lansingburgh and disrupting service throughout the city and nine neighboring communities for a week.
