The U.S. wants to eliminate traffic fatalities. Here’s how.
The U.S. Department of Transportation is targeting zero traffic fatalities through a new national deployment plan centered on vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology. According to Autoblog, traffic fatalities have risen 24% over the past decade with pedestrian deaths reaching a 40-year high. The idea is that V2X aims to enhance road safety by enabling vehicles to communicate with the other and surrounding infrastructure. However, widespread adoption is being hindered by the need for supportive infrastructure and a sufficient number of equipped vehicles on the road. Pilot programs are springing up in Houston, Phoenix and Utah to test the V2X systems.
