State approves exploratory drilling near Yellowstone National Park

State environmental officials OK’d a Canadian mining company’s gold hunt in a gulch north of Yellowstone National Park. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality approved Lucky Minerals Inc.’s exploratory drilling plans on private land in Emigrant Gulch on Wednesday. The agency said the company could look for gold as long as they take extra steps to protect wildlife, water quality and more. DEQ Director Tom Livers said in a statement that the company already “has agreed to mitigations beyond what is required in statute.”
