Rebuilding America’s Backbone: A Call for Resilient Infrastructure
U.S. infrastructure, built largely during the mid-20th century is now being strained by aging, inadequate maintenance and rising climate pressures. According to Planetizen, since 1998 the American Society of Civil Engineers has issued a “report card” for 17 key infrastructure areas, evaluating them on criteria such as capacity, resilience and funding. Despite the record investments being put forward under the latest federal acts, ASCE’s latest report shows only a modest improvement in the country’s grade: a C-. However, with all the new projects funded through initiatives such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, grades could soon improve.
