My love for the environment is emotional. It first started while exploring the creeks and rivers of the Eastern Shore, the sandy coves, the brackish wetlands, the blues and greens of the marshes. This love, in my eyes, made the intrinsic and spiritual value of the environment outweigh any monetary, short-lived gain by its destruction. However, a different argument must be made for our new President; whose actions have already weakened U.S. environment protections, strengthened unsustainable energy industries, and threatened our public lands. It’s clear he doesn’t share the emotional or spiritual attachment to the natural world that I and many Americans value.
