Ohio Department of Transportation Progresses on Route 7 Slip Project
Making significant strides on the Ohio 7 slip project in Mingo Junction, the Ohio Department of Transportation aims to reopen the road to four lanes following a rockfall remediation effort.
The project has been years in the making, and involved extensive blasting to safely bring down parts of the hillside.
“They are completing some of the work on the north end of the project, which means they’re going to move to that southern end of the project and with that those containers are no longer needed,” ODOT spokesperson Lauren Borell said.
According to Fox’s WTOV9 News, The containers were initially used for safety during the blasting phase.
“Those are for containment so that way if there is rockfall during blasting it helps protect the roadway,” Borell said.
The project was initially scheduled for completion at the end of June but faced a two-week delay due to sub-zero temperatures. ODOT now expects to finish by mid-July.
“In the coming months we are going to see some traffic pattern changes,” Borell said. “We will continue to maintain one lane in each direction but you may see some shifts and the reason for that is because there is some pavement work that has to take place before the project is complete.”
