Next Stimulus Bill is an Opportunity to Improve Infrastructure Investment
Despite being overlooked in the previous stimulus relief bills amid the pandemic, infrastructure investments are a topic that will be debated by Congress, according to an article by Liz Carey in Transportation Today. The question is not, “why should we invest in infrastructure?” Considering the fact that Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act expires on Sept. 30, the better question is, “how are we going to pay for it?” Including infrastructure in a COVID-19 response package would most certainly help.
“It would be nice to see a bill include innovative policies that incentivizes new sources of funding,” said Rick Geddes, professor in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management at Cornell University. “My view is that projects that are needed to stimulate the economy are projects that wrap up quickly and get money out the door.”
