Nacogdoches Wastewater Treatment Plant Reaches Collection Capacity
The city stated that the substantial rainfall and ground saturation over the past week have overwhelmed the Wastewater Treatment Plant, pushing the collection system to its maximum capacity. This has led to an overflow of rainwater and sanitary sewage at a manhole near the treatment plant, releasing over 100,000 gallons into La Nana Creek.
According to KTRE, following the necessary protocol, the City said it informed the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and issued the required notifications to the media and City of Nacogdoches officials. The environmental threat is minimal as the overflow was 95 percent rainwater.
City officials said that heavy rains in the area have caused flooding conditions on all waterways throughout the system, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant experienced the same problem.
