‘Major Gap’ Gas industry FERC Petitions Stoke NEPA Concerns
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is considering proposals from energy companies that may set a precedent for how FERC implements environmental law.
According to and article by EnergyWire, there are three cases that project developers are asking FERC to declare their proposals for liquefied natural gas facilities are outside the agency’s jurisdiction. If the independent agency accepts the petitions, from the developers, it could change federal LNG reviews. The petitions illustrate what critics say is a major gap in how the U.S. government handles environmental reviews of gas projects under the National Environmental Policy Act.
