Kansas City Airport Showcases How LEED Serves Infrastructure Projects
Kansas City International Airport recently opened a new terminal with LEED Gold certification.
Celebrating the new terminal
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Feb. 27 to celebrate the new terminal’s opening. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg attended and noted that this project was built not only on time, but also on budget—a feat of its own.
Peter Templeton, president and CEO of USGBC and GBCI, was present along with many local elected officials, who highlighted the airport’s stylish new features and unveiled its LEED Gold plaque. Templeton presented the plaque to Quinton Lucas, mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, and Pat Klein, director of aviation for the city.
