Report: I-84 expansion among nation’s biggest boondoggles

The plan to widen I-84 in the Danbury area is one of the most wasteful highway expansions in the U.S., according to a report by a consumer, public interest group. The state Department of Transportation is planning to rebuild an eight-mile, heavily congested stretch of I-84 between Exits 3 and 8 in Danbury. Construction is expected to start by 2022 and continue for several years. DOT said the work will “improve safety, increase capacity, and improve operations and access to the highway.”
