Greening the commute: AC Transit to nearly double hydrogen fuel cell fleet

OAKLAND — AC Transit will be nearly doubling its hydrogen fuel cell bus fleet thanks largely to an $8.5 million grant from the California Air Resources Board, agency officials said Tuesday. AC Transit will receive 10 new hydrogen fuel cell electric buses as part of its participation in the nascent Fuel Cell Electric Bus Commercialization Consortium, a $22.3 million project sponsored by the air board through California Climate Investments, which channels cap-and-trade funds into projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
