Great Falls Named One of the Nation’s Fastest Growing Metro Areas

A new analysis from national labor statistics firm Moody has called Great Falls one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the United States. In 2014 average wages jumped more than ten percent, and income growth surpassed earlier predictions. These good trends are expected to continue throughout 2015. Brett Doney with the Great Falls Development Authority says all this growth is due to an increase in high-paying manufacturing jobs, which have gone up 20 percent over the past two years.Although that has also come with a decrease in lower paying jobs, which Doney says can put pressure on employers who are expected to pay higher wages. “For many years Great Falls was a steady economy, now it’s dynamic, which brings new opportunities but also new challenges,” says Doney. Moving forward, Doney says the biggest challenge for continued growth will be attracting more people, especially young adults. The city will also focus on supporting local businesses and attracting more people through rental housing, recreation, and entertainment.
