Energy Department Unveils Plan To Boost AI Research Capacity
Department of Energy will leverage existing supercomputers and labs to create AI systems for scientific breakthroughs and national security.
According to AI Business, the Department of Energy (DOE) has unveiled a road map for its FASST initiative, a $12 billion, five-year project to develop integrated scientific AI systems.
FASST, which stands for Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence for Science, Security and Technology, aims to create a network of AI research clusters using DOE’s computing infrastructure. The project will focus on advancing scientific discovery, energy solutions and national security applications.
FASST also covers an extensive talent procurement project to bring the top AI talent to the U.S., as well as the development of AI tools to “dramatically reduce the time to discovery and extend the nation’s competitive edge in technological innovation.”
