DOT Announces $2.4 Billion in New Rail Projects to Improve Safety, Strengthen Supply Chains and Grow America’s Freight and Passenger Rail Networks
The Department of Transportation has announced $2.4 billion in grants for 122 rail projects across 41 starts that’ll be funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. According to the DOT, the projects are administrated through the FRA’s CRISI Program, and it will focus on enhancing safety, reliability and efficiency in both passenger and freight rail networks.
Major upgrades include track improvements, bridge rehabilitations, new locomotives and expanded rail connections at key stops. Included with the grant is money for workforce development initiatives like apprenticeships and partnerships aimed at building a skilled rail workforce. These initiatives mark the most significant federal investment in U.S. rail infrastructure in over 50 years, aligning with the current administration’s broader goals to modernize transportation and bolster economic resilience.
