DOE Announces Additional $2 Billion To Protect The Grid Against Growing Threats of Extreme Weather, Expand Transmission
The U.S. Department of Energy has allocated nearly $2 billion for 38 projects across 42 states to enhance grid resilience and meet rising electricity demands, as reported by T&D World. The projects are a part of the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnership (GRIP) program, and the plan is to upgrade over 950 miles of transmission and add over 7.5 GW of grid capacity.
The hope is that this will catalyze more than $4.2 billion in public and private investment. It’s also a part of the DOE’s efforts to reduce outages, support ocean energy and generate nearly 6,000 jobs.
