Congress Plans Another Cyber Bill for Vital Infrastructure
Merely reporting cyber attacks is not enough, lawmakers are looking for ulterior methods to ensure that critical infrastructure is protected.
According to Government Technology, CISA, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, has designated 16 sectors, ranging from banks and financial institutions to hospitals and election systems, as critical. The agency works with private sector partners in each of these sectors to share intelligence and help them boost security measures.
The water association alone has reached out to 58,000 water systems since late December about potential attacks, however, many of these are not deemed as critical. As a first step, Congress needs to identify the systems that are vital. In return, companies should step up their security measures.
