Cadiz Selects Stantec to Serve as Owner’s Engineer for the Mojave Groundwater Bank Project
Cadiz Inc. has appointed Stantec Inc. as the owner’s engineer for the Mojave Groundwater Bank project, an $800 million initiative poised to become the largest new water infrastructure development in the Southwest. Situated in California’s Mojave Desert, the project aims to deliver 2.5 million acre-feet of new water supply and provide 1 million acre-feet of underground storage capacity. It will also feature a pipeline network exceeding 350 miles, connecting the Colorado River to the California Aqueducts, thereby enhancing water accessibility for communities across California and Arizona.
Stantec’s role encompasses overseeing design, development, and construction, utilizing a Construction Management at Risk delivery model to expedite the project’s timeline. The Mojave Groundwater Bank is strategically located at the base of a 2,000-square-mile watershed, approximately 40 miles north of the Colorado River Aqueduct. The underlying aquifer system holds an estimated 30 to 50 million acre-feet of groundwater, surpassing the combined storage of Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Additionally, Cadiz has partnered with Native American tribes to construct, own, and operate the facility, marking a significant collaboration in U.S. water infrastructure development
