American Water Works Association Presents Source Water Protection Week
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is launching its fourth annual Source Water Protection Week from September 29 to October 5, 2024. This campaign emphasizes the vital importance of safeguarding source water, ensuring that communities have access to clean and safe drinking water. Throughout the week, AWWA and its partners, including the Source Water Collaborative, will promote awareness of collaborative efforts essential for protecting drinking water sources, such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and groundwater.
AWWA’s CEO, David LaFrance, underscores the significance of this initiative, noting that the protection of source waters remains a top priority for water professionals. The campaign also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), featuring resources that highlight key regulations related to drinking water standards and source water assessments. Attendees are encouraged to participate and utilize available educational materials, social media graphics, and case studies to enhance community engagement in source water protection efforts. More information and resources can be found on the AWWA website.
