Acadiana leaders taking regional approach to flood control funding; projects rated on Wednesday

Two drainage improvements for Coulee Ill des Cannes in Scott appear likely to grab a slice of $25 million in federal disaster funding for Acadiana watershed management projects, as part of a regional approach to disaster funding that is something of a novelty in Louisiana. Parishes typically seek funding for individual mitigation projects such as home elevations. Following the massive 2016 floods, however, officials across Acadiana decided to apply for funding through the Acadiana Planning Commission, in the hopes reducing flood risk throughout the region.
